Three References have been found for Taneytown, the first being the New Theatre in the late 1920's,  the second being the Shriner, listed from 1931 to 1945 , seating between 200 and 215. Later years ( the early 1950's ) the Taneytown Theatre is listed seating 240. It is possible the two are one and the same..
While researching the old theatre, we found a copy of the Taneytown " Carroll Record " for 1927. It actually brought forth more questions than answers ( isn't that always the case ). First, we found ads for the New Theatre, which appears to have been in Taneytown, one we had not heard of before. Another name for the town theatre in the late 1920's, or perhaps an ad posted for the New Theatre in nearby Manchester. ( We're not sure yet, but we'll let you know ) . We also found an ad for the Birnie Opera House, which was in Taneytown, atleast in 1927 . Ads can be found below........
