| Here's what I have
found....so far on theatres in Middletown : I don't have a date for it ( yet ) but Middletown did have a Opera House , located on Church Street. A recent check on Church Street found nothing that resembled an early Opera House and our guess is it has been razed . By 1923, Movies could be seen in Memorial Hall, which was listed into the 1930's, showing a seating of 575. In the mid 1940's, movies were shown in the State Theatre, seating 350 and in the early 1950's, it was the Towne Theatre showing movies with seating at 526. There was also a movie house named the Community, not sure of the years of operation for the Community. We have a feeling that all of the above names are the theatre seen above. |
