The town of Northeast
Maryland in Cecil County had at least one old movie
theatre, the Northeast Theatre .If what I can tell, it
was also known as the Opera House in early years - and
a recent check found not only is the building still
standing, but is in excellent condition and is being
used by a local Dollar General Store. Kilduffs came
through North East about ten years ago, and the Dollar
General was operating out of the building at that time
as well.
In the late 1920's and early 1930's,
the theatre went by the name of the Opera House and
the New Opera House , seating between 200 and 300
people. By the late 1930's, the
name had been changed to the Northeast, showing the
address of 153 Main Street , but a check of Insurance
maps showed the building at 154-156 Main Street , just
south of Cecil Avenue. The Northeast seated between
400 and 500 people.

We have also found a reference to
the Cecil Theatre
around the late 1930's, located in the GAR
Hall on Nowland Avenue. Nowland Avenue no longer exist
(
they changed the name ) and all we could find on a
recent
check was a house. We did find the
GAR Hall on an old insurance map.
