The Irvington neighborhood back in the 1960's. You can clearly see the Irvington Theatre in the background. While the building survives to this day, no movies have been shown in the old Irvington for years, and the building has been used as a church. I was able to get a tour of the Irvington several years back and in the lobby area, a recessed ceiling light have works with bulbs hidden to give it a " UFO " feel really catches your eyes. The old projector room is still intact, but is used for storage. The theatre section of the building itself is in nice condition as well. ................................................................................. Notes from Lou G.  "I was also a movie goer at the Capitol and Lord Baltimore Theaters on Baltimore St.  I used to go to the Saturday matinees at the Irvington.  Remember the Serials and the Original Screen.  The curtain would open and the Usher had to put some kind of board to keep the bottom from blocking part of the screen. There used to be a Box Seat area at each side of the screen, but was covered up when they put in the Wide  Screen.     I have included 6 pictures of the Irvington Fire of 1955.  It started in the Bowling Alley above Murphy's 5&10 cent store.  If you need more info, let me know.  The only two places left of the original 1940's Irvington are the "Loop" and the "Irvington Liquor Store".
