One of the earliest theatres we could find in Annapolis was the Electric Theatre, located at 39 Market Square, just across the street from the Market. It didn't last long, in fact the next insurance map we found has the building being used as a hardware store. The building, which looks like it has been renovated several times, is the white building with the green window trim.

Another early Annapolis Theatre was the Colonial Theatre, located on Conduit Street, just around the corner from Main ( Church ) Street. The theatre burned down years ago, and on one insurance map I found, they actually had the "ruins" noted on the site. The old theatre was replaced years ago with Gorman Street. ( sorry for the boring picture, but its the best we to go on. )

Above, the ruins of the Colonial Theatre ( Thank You G. Jones ) . Also an ad of early Annapolis Theatres, including the Colonial, Republic and Palace ( A new one to me ) .

Looking up Main ( Church ) Street , the two story building on the left, with the windows on the second floor, is the site of the old Garden Theatre. The theatre appears to have been torn down years ago, and was next to the Republic Theatre, which was also torn down in the a few years ago. The Magnet Theatre was also noted as being in this area, and checks of insurance maps could not locate the Magnet, and it is possible the Garden and Magnet were the same.

I have not found anything to indicate that the Annapolis Opera House ever showed movies. It appears the old Opera House was converted a few years before movies even came out to other uses, including a school, with the first floor being used for a variety of businesses. Kilduff's has, however decided to include the old Opera Houses on the site, as there really isn't any reference out there for Maryland's old Opera Houses, and you never know if perhaps early movies were shown at one point here or not.....

I'll have some more information on the Opera House, I just wanted to get these pictures posted quickly.....
