In September of 2013, the
Kilduff's camera crew took a trip to Crisfield,
finding only an empty lot where the Arcade Theatre
was meant to be, at Main Street and 4th.
It had been built
to replace the Crisfield Opera House, which burned
down in 1928. The theatre was a yellow brick
structure , and operated through out the 1920's,
30's, 40s and 50's. Some accounts show a fire in
1965, which badly damaged the building. It also
went by the name of the New Arcade, as seen in the
ads below, with records showing a seating capacity
of 350 in the late 1930's.
Other Crisfield theatres we found ( pre 1950 ) are : Lyric Theatre - ( listed in 1928 - seated 350 and seems to have burned down in 1928 ) Lee - Main and Sixth Streets ( Operated 1940 to early 1960's ) Opera House - AKA Odd Fellows Hall and/or the Temple Opera House - Burned down in 1928 - located at 300 West Main Street. Seating Capacity of 800 - Theatre was on the second floor.
