Park
Heights Avenue has several old movie
theaters along the strip, including the
Avalon, the Uptown, and the Pimlico. The
Avalon was located in the 4300 block of
Park Heights Avenue, just south of West
Cold Spring Lane. The Avalon opened in the
late 1920's and closed down by the early
1960's, being used as a radio station (
WSID - 92.3 FM ) office for years,
before standing vacant, until it was razed
in the late 1990's. The site is now a
health Center.....

The Avalon was used as radio
studios and later as a church, before it was
finally just abandoned in the 1980's. The entire
4300 block of Park Heights was torn down
in the late 1990's.

A fenced in grass field filled the site for years but recently a health center went up at the location. References - Film Daily Yearbook - 1936 ( seated 1073 ) Film Daily Yearbook - 1943 ( seated 1093 ) Film Daily Yearbook - 1950 ( seated 1000 ) |
