The Wizard was a important early
small theatre on North Eutaw Street, in downtown
Baltimore. The Wizard had
some of the most attractive ads in local newspapers in
the early years, as seen below. The entire block has
been rebuilt over the years, and much neweer
buildings occupy the site , with no trace of the old
theater.
While the Wizard was
mention early and often, by the 1930's I was
unable to find any mention of the Wizard. In the
1920 Wid's Film Yearbook , the Wizard as being run
by Bernard Depkin Jr. , under Paramount, and was one
of six he operated that year. It also made mention
that the Wizard was one of the four most important
First Run houses in town, the other three being the
Parkway, Blue Mouse and Rivoli.
