In the early 1930's, Westernport, which at the
time had a population of 3,440 had a movie theatre
known as the Star. The Star reportedly seated about
350. My references from the early 1940's so
far show no active theatre ( so far ) , but
by1946, the Welsh is listed, with the town's
population just a little larger, and the capacity of
the theatre down to 300. A recent check by Kilduff's
found that the site of the theatre is now a parking
lot, as seen on the left side of the photo above,
where the van is parked. The theatre entrance was
located at 41 Main Street , accross the street from
St. James Church. The rear of the theatre backed up
to a driveway, which followed along George's
Creek. A pool hall was located on the same
side of the street, just a few doors down. There
might have been a fire in 1947 which damaged or
destroyed the building, but we are still
looking into that information.
