.The Stanley Theatre back in
the 1920's, when it opened, seating about 3,000. .Thanks to Robert Kramer for the photograph. |
When the Academy of
Music was torn down in the late 1920's, the Stanley
Theatre was built in it's place. Perhaps the
grandest movie palace to grace Baltimore City, the
Stanley survived only to the mid 1960's, before
being torn down.

On
the south side of the Mayfair Theatre, you can still
see scars from the old Stanley Theatre. The theatre
was torn down in the 1960's and the site was left as
a parking lot. The site was also once the home of
the Academy of Music.
Above , the spot where once the Stanley Theatre once stood. It was torn down in the 1960's and is now a parking lot. Looking south on Howard Street, a gapping hole shows where once the Stanley Theatre stood. |
