By all accounts, it doesn't look good for
the Port ( AKA Riverside ) Theatre in Port Deposit
Maryland. We checked the insurance maps, located where
the theatre was and went into town, ready to grab a
shot but It appears the old theatre has been torn
down, and is now a town parking lot. If you know any
differently, please let us know. We have heard that
back int he day, movies may have been shown in the
Port Deposit Town Hall, at 2 South Main Street , which
was also used as a Lodge. You may have also been able
to see movies at the Jacob Tome Institute, a little
further down the road. Addresses for the old Riverside
theatre vary from 27 to 32 Main street, and the
theatre was near the intersection with High Street.
The back of the theatre faced the Susquehanna River,
with only the Wiley Equipment Company Yard separating
the two . |

The Port Theatre is believed to be
somewhere in this group of buildings taken in Port
Deposit back in the 1940's. Kilduff's has a pretty
good idea which building it is, and will have a
photo soon. The theatre went by the name of the
Riverside Theatre from atleast the early 1930's (
and likely into the 1920's ) and changed the name
to the Port Theatre by 1946, which lasted
into the mid 1950's. The theatre seated 300
people. ( Current shot of the postcard )
.
The
Tome School also showed movies , and is often listed
as the " Tome ", listed from the late 1930's to the
mid 1940's. The old school building has been razed
many years ago. ( The old entrance can be seen below
