..![]() North Main Street Woodsboro, Maryland ................................................................................ |
There were
at least 22 Opera Houses located in the State of
Maryland around the 1910's and 1920's. Many were
converted into movie houses, as the direction of
entertainment changed over from live drama to that on
film. We have heard of the Woodsboro Opera House, and
here's what we have found....so far. The Opera House
was on the second floor of a three story brick faced
building on North Main Street. On the first
floor was the Woodsboro Bank. which is still using the
building. The building has been altered over the
years, in the 1950's, 1960's and 1980's. The second
floor was also used as a Town Hall and Community
Center over the years, and has since been converted to
other uses. The theatre section of the building
appears to have closed in the early 1950's, seating
about 225. We'll have a photo of the building coming
soon. |
