![]() .New Theatre as
a Sunny's Surplus Store in the early 1970's
Reisterstown,
in Northwest Baltimore County, has had several movie
theatre names that I have located, but several seem
to be names for the New Theatre, seen above. In
1931, the FDA listed a State Theatre for the town,
but at this point, no other information has been
found on the State. I am still looking into the
1920's history of the town, but in 1928,
Reisterstown suffered a fire that destroyed much of
the business district.

.Reisterstown in the " early years ".
|
......By the late
1930's, references were found for both the
Reisterstown Theatre and New Theatre, although from
what I can find, the address of 49 Reisterstown Road
was listed for both. However, the Reisterstown showed
a seating of 300, while the New showed more than 500.
Besides the confusion on these theatre names, the
Montrose is also listed in 1938, but I believe
that was the nearby Montrose School. The New Theatre
building still stands, used for years as a Sunny
Surplus store and currently being used by a business. |
