![]() ( Frederick Co ) .307 Church Street Thurmont, Maryland . Includes State Theatre |
In the early
days ( 1920's ) , Thurmont had the IOOF Hall at 223
Main Street to see the movies, from what we
understand. Movies were also shown in the Thurmont
Town Hall as well. The town theatre was located at
307 Church Street , which in 1931 seated 300. We
traveled up to Thurmont, but the address we located
was a parking lot.

of the old State Theatre - Thurmont Maryland - just
a block off of Main Street.
.
![]() By the
late 1930's, the theatre appears to have changed
it's name to the State Theatre, with seating listed
as 300 to 400. The State survived well into the
1950's. We have been looking for old ads, but so
far, the only thing we have found was an Lions Club
Ad in the Thurmont Town Hall for a Vaudeville Show.
We continue to search.............
.
![]() I know,
what does this have to do with movies in Thurmont.
But we haven't been able to locate a picture of the
old theatre yet, and we never pass up a chance to
post an old interesting postcard.
