| Old Baltimore Gas
Stations Once a very common sight around town, the old " service stations " as they were once called are getting harder to find. New gas stations , that have gas and snacks are popping up all over town and the days of gassing up and getting your car fixed at the same place are over. Kilduffs is a web site which focuses on Baltimore's old movie theatres and what has happened to those old buildings. As I travel around town, I can't help but notice other old building styles that are quickly disappearing, and figured I 'd grab a picture or two of each as I passed by. The older pictures of Baltimore gas stations have been found here and there, which accounts for the sometimes less than perfect quality of the images. If you enjoyed the page, please let us know. Please feel free to email Kilduffs with any questions or comments .

A few old drawing that were found on old ads for gas stations in Baltimore. The Spanish style roof over top the pumps were a common style of gas station found all over Baltimore back in the 1920's. While a few examples survive to this day, you won't find a open gas station still using this style. For many years, an attendant would greet you as you pulled up, pump your gas, check your oil, wash your windows, and perhaps even offer you a free map. |

This old service station
is located on the corner of Park Heights Avenue and Oakford Avenue. The
gas pumps have long been removed, but car service was done at the
location until recently ( 2005 ) . This style of gas station cuts into
the corner of the block, allowing a gas station to operate in a block that
might not have been able to support it. You can still see the "Service"
sign attached to the wall next to the office. |

........................................................................Thomas Paul Photo - 2006 " All good things must come to an end ". The block long gas station came down in 2005. It had ramps for parking on both the right and left sides, and a area in the center where pumps had been. When they torn down the old station, I was surprised to see just how small the lot was the station had occupied. I remember growing up in Baltimore and seeing a station much like this one on Howard Street around 22nd Street. That place was torn down many years ago as well. |
