While doing research on Maryland Movie
theatres, namely on the Eastern Shore, I kept coming
up with references and a few ads for the " Adams
Floating Boat Theatre", also known as simply the
"Floating Boat Theatre". I 've found
several websites on the old floating theatre barge,
but we figured it couldn't hurt to include it on
Kilduff's, as the theatre docked in many Ports along
the Chesapeake and called Baltimore it's Home Port for
a while. A book entitled ' This Was Chesapeake
Bay , by Robert H. Burgess which came out on the early
1960's gave this description of the old Adams. It had
been built in 1914 , built plain to withstand the
weather of the Chesapeake Bay, and could seat 700,
complete with box seats and balcony. It was
towed to the Ports of Call by two powerboats, the Elk
and the Trouper. The barge would dock in
Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The show Boat
burned in1941.
