The history of
movies, according to the Film Daily , on Solomon's
Island, goes something like this.......
.
.
In 1931, movies were seen
in the Town Hall, which seated about 200.
By
1938, the Evans ( above ) was listed for that
year, seating 250, and the Evans survived until
about 1945. The building the Evans had been in
apparently is still standing, but greatly altered
and is used as a restaurant today .
Also
starting a listing in 1938 was the Parish Hall,
which showed movies until about 1952. In 1952, the
New was listed , seating about 200, as was the
D&L ( D&L Shopping Center ), seating 340.
The D&L Shopping Center was a little north
of the island, and from what we understand, no
longer stands. There has been a lot of development
in this area in recent years.
