A few old ads from the Dunbar Theatre, one of the more popular black theatres on the East Side of the City. The theatre was built in the mid- 1910's and lasted to the late 1950's. In the " Within Our Gates " ad above,  admission was listed as 11 to 17 cents and it is advised that you " Come Early and Avoid The Rush ". Separate nights are listed for the movie " Temptation ", with June 19 being  " For Men Only ", and June 20, being " For Women Only ".  Admission was only 17 cents and " Children under 12 years were not admitted ".  At the Dunbar, one could " Hear and See Only the Best ", and the theatre was " Sufficiently Air Conditioned ".
