There were actually two movie
theatres in Baltimore with the name " Columbia",
named after the street, which back in the day was
known as Columbia Road. It as since been renamed
Washington Blvd. The Columbia theatre seen at the
top of the page was a much larger and well known
theatre, torn down in the 1970s' to make way
for the building of Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. The
Eureka, which was very close to the Columbia was
also torn down to make way for the thruway.
However, I have always heard about the
earlier Columbia Theatre located in the 600 block of
Washington Blvd. I had believed that the old theatre
building had been torn down for the building of
Camden Yards baseball park, one block to the East ,
but I finally located an insurance map which clearly
showed the earlier Columbia, and a recent check
found the building not only still standing, but in
excellent condition, being reused for other purposes
for many years.
