As we get the time, we will fill this
page with plenty of old Century Theatre Ads (
Baltimore ), but in doing a look over the site
recently, we saw just how small the images we had
loaded were. Back in the day, we had restrictions to
just how much room the web site could have on our
server ( or pay more ) , but times have changed, which
have allowed us to redo the pages with much better and
larger graphics. Enjoy ! |
![]() These are several old theatre "proofs", which are the ads, after the theater art department submitted them to the newspaper, looking for mistakes. I found one or two "Proof Two" which I'm guessing are the second attempt to submit the ads. This ad dates back to 1928, when it appears John Kilduff worked at the Century Theatre on Lexington Street in downtown Baltimore and was drawing the ads for the daily and Sunday newspapers. These ads appear to be all hand drawn, but I only have the proofs, and without the original ads, it's hard to tell, but from what I have learned, this entire ad is hand drawn. |
![]() In later years, I have seen where old cut outs from photographs were used in ads, lucky to cut down the time to make the ad and add a different look to the ads. I'll be posting a few of the old ads I found which were originals, likely to be found on the Keith's Theatre page. I will also post them on Kilduff's.org . This ad also dates to 1928, about the time the Stanley Theater opened on North Howard Street. The Century Roof Top, which was a dance floor was now the Valencia Theatre, and there's even a mention for the Parkway, which was located on North Avenue, right at the City County line. The line moved North years ago. |
![]() Ads would be packed with information, with drawings of your favorite stars, or a little scene of the movie. This ads dates to 1931 and was likely only one of the things John Kilduff did that day in promoting the Century Theatre. |
