| Southeast Baltimore appears to have the fewest old movie theatres listed on Kilduffs. There were plenty of the smaller storefront theatres in this area, but not as many of the larger old theaters you find in other parts of the City. One quick note before we begin, all theaters on Dundalk Avenue have been listed as Baltimore County, although it appears the Carlton and Colgate Theatres should have been listed to Baltimore City. Fell's Point has several of the old movie theaters of
Southeast Baltimore City, with one theater still operating, though not
quite with family entertainment. The Apex
theatre on
Broadway, just south of Lombard Street, continues to show movies to
this day, however they are X rated films and have been showing here
since at least the 1970's. The old theater, that dates back the 1940's,
still had red neon that glowed on the marquee that had seen better
days. While not one of the more attractive theaters in Baltimore City,
the Apex has managed to outlive nearly every movie house in
town, including several others in Fell's Point.

| As you travel towards the water, you'll come across the old Leader Theatre, in the 200 block of South Broadway. While one of the more popular movie theaters in Fell's Point for years, today it is impossible to tell the building was ever a movie theater. Marquee ripped down, the front of the Leader Theatre today. The Leader seated about 500 and closed in the 1950's. | ![]() |

Across the street, two old movie houses still stand in Fell's Point, although both are now used for other purposes today. The Castle like Broadway Theatre, opened in the 1910's and lasted for some time, closing in the 1970's. The old movie house has been converted into a restaurant. |

The final theater of Fell's Point that stands out is the old Cluster Theatre , in the 300 block of South Broadway. Opening in the 1910's and surviving for many years, the old theater closed around the 1980's, and is currently a church.................................................... The Cluster, circa 1980. |

Highlandtown is one of Southeast
Baltimore strongest neighborhoods, and has been served by several old
movie houses over the years. Perhaps the thing I remember most of the
Patterson is the old vertical marquee. If you were heading east on
Eastern Avenue, it let you know you had arrived at Highlandtown. The
theater is currently being "renovated" and the last time I checked, the
marquee had been taken down, and the theater had been gutted

In the 3800 block of Eastern Avenue, the old Highland Theatre, built in the 1940's stands, currently used as a store. |
| One of Baltimore's Greatest old theaters, the Grand, has perhaps finally met it's fate. The old theater, in the 500 block of South Conkling Street ( You can't miss it ! ) has a green front and towers over the block. The theater dates back to the 1910's, and lasted into the 1980's, but the Pratt Library wants to tear the old building down for a new regional library. | ![]() |

A sad look at the theater today, ready for the wrecking ball. |
| As we finish our Southeast Theatre Tour, we work our way to the 900 block of South Linwood Street, and the neighborhood movie house the Linwood. The theater operated from the 1901's to the 1950's and is easy to spot even today. | ![]() |
