Back in the 1980's, Blaney's was only one of a few old buildings that survived in the 300 block of North Eutaw Street. " Hutzler Annex " was visible on the side for years, and the front of the building even had the facade of a theatre.       1980's T. Paul Photo

Blaney's 1980's
Most people in Baltimore probably don't even know the name Blaney's, or of the theatre that once stood in the 300 block of North Eutaw Street. According the Exit, Dr. Headley's book on Baltimore movie theatres, the Empire Theatre, later known as Blaney's opened in 1901, in a converted church. It came to be known as Blaney's by 1904,  and it continued to be used as a theater into the 1920's, with both movies and stage shows. The theater was operated under several different names throughout the years.

Old Sunpapers shot showing the theater before Hutzler's used it as a Annex.

Looking south in the same block back in the 1980's. The old theatre was used as a Hutzler Annex, and looked odd, with the entrance boarded up.
