Essex is a community
built just outside the Eastern
border of Baltimore City and has
plenty of development along
Eastern Avenue. During the
1940's and 1950's, the Alert
Theatre was listed as the
theatre in the 500 block of
Eastern Avenue, seating between
285 and 350 people. By the 1951,
another theatre was listed for
Essex at 416 Eastern Avenue,
going under the name of the New
Essex Theatre, and seating 625 -
listed until atleast 1957.
The building is no longer a
movie theatre, and apparently
suffered a fire back in the
1950's., and was either rebuilt
or greatly altered. Back in the
early 1930's, The Electric
Theatre was listed for Essex (
Address unknown ) , which seated
320. By the late 1930's, that
theatre was going under the name
of the Elektra. I have no idea
at this point if that was indeed
the Alert Theatre.

416 Eastern Avenue - Could this
building be the New Essex Theatre ?
From what I have been hearing , it
is not, as the old theatre burned
down.
