The Aladdin
Theatre was a smaller theater in West Baltimore City which operated
for several years around the 1920's, going by the name of the "Booker
T" in the 1930's. The theatre also went by the name of the New
Queen Theatre for a few years. The building no longer stands, but survived
into the 1990's, being used as offices, before it was finally razed. I was able to locate old 1930's ads for the Aladdin
Theatre, as seen on the left, and the Booker
T, above, where the ad mentions " Free : $40. in Groceries Every Thursday
- Twice Nightly " .The ad below, for the movie
" Hold Your Man, mentions under the theatre name, " formerly the New
Queen Theatre " in the ad. The University of Maryland Hospital
complex has been expanding West, and the 600 and 700 blocks of West Baltimore
Street have already been incorporated, and I'm quite sure this block will
be included in future plans for the hospital.
