Recently, the beautiful
marquee of the old Arcade came down, due to safety concerns. The supports
of the marquee had gotten weak, and the price to repair the heavy marquee
was just too much, so it was taken down. Sadly, nothing on the marquee was
saved ! I remember the first time seeing the marquee and imagining how it
must have looked at night, all lit up. The theater section of the building
is actually in the back of the structure, where you who pass a long hall
by several small shops to get there.
The Arcade opened in the
late 1920's, and closed in the late 1970's, seating between 898 and 1,000.
The building is currently used as a church after being used for years as
a warehouse of sorts.

This was actually only the entranceway,
the actual theater was in the rear of the block.

Individual bulbs not only spelled out ARCADE on the marquee, but it was outlined
in neon.

To the
rear of the building is the actual theater, as shown here.
